Tyrian is a vertical shoot'em up in a distant future universe.

In a really distant future, you are Trent Hawkins, employed by Microsol, a giant corporation, to scout out habitable locations. While you are on your latest assignment, the planet Tyrian, Microsol tries to get the whole power and to become unstoppable. After killing Trent’s friends, Microsol tries to get rid of Trent himself. Having survived, Trent tries to escape and to reach Savara with a small fighter as promised to his friend.
